Imdur

GENERIC NAME(S): Isosorbide Mononitrate

Uses

Isosorbide Mononitrate, sold under the trade name Imdur among others. Isosorbide Mononitrate is used to prevent chest pain (angina) in patients with a certain cardiovascular condition (coronary artery disease). This drug is related to a class of drugs called nitrates. It works by relaxing and widening the blood vessels so that the blood flows more easily to the heart.
This drug will not relieve the chest pain once it happens. Also, to prevent chest pain, it is not intended to take it right before physical activity (eg exercise or sexual intercourse). Other drugs may be prescribed by your doctor for these conditions. Consult your doctor for more details.

How To Use Imdur

Take Isosorbide Mononitrate or Imdur guided by your doctor, usually twice a day. Every day, take the first dose when you get up, then take second dose after 7 hours. It is important to take medication at the same time each day. Do not change dosing time until your doctor is directed.
Use this drug regularly to get the most benefit. To help you remember, take it every day at the same time. Do not stop taking it without consulting your doctor. When the drug suddenly stops, some conditions may get worse. Your dose may need to be gradually decreased.
Although unlikely, when Imdur is used for a long time, it can also not work and may require different doses. Tell your doctor if this medicine stops working well (for example, you are having more or chest pain more often).
