HCTZ

COMMON BRAND(S): Microzide
GENERIC NAME(S): Hydrochlorothiazide

Uses

Hydrochlorothiazide or Hctz is used to treat high blood pressure. Reducing hypertension helps in preventing stroke, heart attack and kidney problems. Hydrochlorothiazide or Hctz is related to a class of drugs called diuretic / “water tablets”. It works to make you more urine. It helps your body get rid of excess salt and water.
This drug reduces excess fluid (edema) in the body due to conditions like heart failure, liver disease or kidney disease. This can reduce the symptoms of breathing or swelling in your ankles or feet.

How to use Hctz

Take Hctz guided by your doctor, usually with or without food once in the morning. If you take this medicine close to the time of sleep, you may have to wake up to urinate. It is best to take this medicine at least 4 hours before your sleep.
Dosage is based on your medical condition and treatment response.
Use Htcz regularly to get the most benefit. To help you remember, take it at the same time every day. Keep taking this medication even if you feel OK. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick.
If you also take some medicines to reduce your cholesterol (bile acid-binding resins such as cholestyramine or colestipol), then take Hctz at least 4 hours before these medications or at least 4 to 6 hours.
Tell your doctor if your condition is not better or if it gets worse (for example, your blood pressure reading is high or increased).

Side Effects

An abdomen may cause irritation, dizziness or headache because your body gets adjusted with medication. If any of these effects gets worse or worse, then tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
To reduce the risk of dizziness and lighthouse, slowly rise while sitting or lying down from the position of lying.
Remember that your doctor has prescribed this drug because he or she has decided that the benefit is higher than the risk of side effects. Many people using this drug do not have serious side effects.
Tell your doctor immediately if you have a serious side effect, including: decrease in vision, pain in the eye.
Due to Hctz, excessive body water (dehydration) and loss of salt / minerals can occur. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any symptoms of dehydration or mineral loss, including: excessive thirst, very dry mouth, muscle spasms / weakness, slow / sharp / irregular heartbeat, confusion, loss of urine
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, if you see symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, get medical help immediately, including: granular, itching / swelling (especially the face / tongue / throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
