Amlodipine

Uses

Amlodipine is used for the treatment of hypertension or with other medicines. Reducing hypertension helps prevent stroke, heart attack and kidney problems. Amlodipine is related to a class of drugs known as calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing the blood vessels so that the blood flows more easily.
Amlodipine is also used to prevent some type of chest pain (angina). It can help increase your ability to exercise and reduce the frequency of angina attacks. When they are there, it should not be used to treat chest pain attacks. Use other drugs (such as sublingual nitroglycerin) to relieve chest pain attacks as directed by your doctor.

How to use Amlodipine

Take Amlodipine with or without mouth directed by your doctor, usually daily once daily.
Dosage is based on your medical condition and treatment response. Your doctor may gradually increase your dose. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.
Use Amlodipine regularly to get the most benefit. To help you remember, take it every day at the same time. It is important to continue taking this medicine even if you feel OK. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick.
If used for angina, then Amlodipine should be taken regularly to be effective. This should not be used to treat angina when done. Use other drugs (such as sublingual nitroglycerin) to relieve a single angina attack as directed by your doctor. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for details.
Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it gets worse (for example, your blood pressure reading is high or increased, chest pain continues or worsens).

Side Effects

Dizziness, laziness, swelling, ankle / foot, or flushing may occur. If any of these effects persists or worsens, tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
To reduce your risk of dizziness and lighthouse, slowly rise up while sitting or lying down from the position of lying.
Remember that your doctor has prescribed Amlodipine because he or she has decided that your benefit is higher than the risk of side effects. Many people using this drug do not have serious side effects. Read More
